"..We should steer black men not interested in college to community college certification for solid vocational jobs to distract them from the canard that selling drugs is a coping strategy.." quoting John McWhorter from the new republic which is part of his 'reaction' to the Professor Gates arrest; i wanted to address because I am one of those black guys with a community college certification; and my experience has been such that often i wonder why i simply don't just sell drugs__i've had so much 'drama' getting and keeping a J O B even with said certification (let alone actual J O B experience--often times greater than most of my white peers) in truth, more white folks 'question' my certification and experience until validated by some white peer--trust me, vocational skill did not make my life easier; true grit made it real, and sheer determination out distanced some of the racist bs i've had to endure..
