The members of gayghana.com, a virtual civil society organisation, summon (or urge?) you to stop the programme of the so-called "Blakk Rasta" presentor (or show-host) immediately.

The show host "Blakk Rasta" is using your radio station to instigate violence and hatred against homosexual and bisexual citizens in Ghana. Although unfortunately a majority of the Ghanaian population, still disapproves of homosexual acts, the radio station management should be aware that inciting hate and violence is illegal. And it is unbecoming to misuse the Media - which are playing such an important role in the public education and democratic process in a country, for these illegal purposes.

Whilst in Ghana's laws (a relic of the colonial past) homosexuals are persecuted rather than protected against discrimination, a United Nations motion has been tabled recently to impress upon countries with discriminatory or insufficiently protective legislation, to respect the universal human rights and decriminalise homosexuality. Thus the international community is trying to make the - mostly sub-saharan African - states which are still in early stages of a process of democratisation, aware that universal human rights include the rights of all people, so also those of homo- and bisexual citizens.

Not withstanding the fact that the Ghana laws are not yet in line with the international treaties on Human Rights signed by its representatives, and ratified by its parliament, the International criminal court in The Hague does prosecute (even if it may be years later) those who incite violence. This also includes the media, as has been shown by the conviction of the people responsible for the hate speeches on the Mille Collines radio station in Rwanda during the genocide, who can not hide behind the "freedom of the press" if they are involving themselves in illegal activities.

The issue of whether your station policy is against or for homosexuality is not the issue we wish to raise with you. The issue is whether you agree with promoting hate and violence in a public forum such as your station. This issue we will also discuss with the companies sponsoring your radio station.

As the management of the radio station you are responsible for the content of the programmes you broadcast. That means you are liable for the illegal incitement to violence by "Blakk Rasta" (and for the open promotion of use of illegal substances (wee) by the same show host).

We call upon you to put an immediate stop to these illegal practices and publicly denounce the station managements support of the statements made on your station by "Blakk Rasta".

The bottom line, particularly for those who consider themselves progressives or radicals, is that homophobia, aside from being morally wrong and flat-out ignorant, is counterrevolutionary. "An injustice anywhere is an injustice everywhere." Rappers can claim anti-government, or pro-black, or pro-social justice or whatever all they want, but if they're casually throwing around anti-gay slurs then they're directly participating in the oppression of a significant portion of the world population.
Which is, of course, exactly what the powers-that-be want. We can't have decently-funded schools or universal health care because voters are too upset over the prospect of gay people getting married. We can't have revolutionary organizations because racism, sexism, classism and homophobia hinder people's basic ability to work together. It's divide and conquer, and perhaps it goes without saying, but it's bigger than hip hop too. Politically-minded rappers being homophobic mirrors a lot of other problems associated with the Left: white liberals being racist and completely oblivious about it, male activists being all for smashing the State but not willing to follow female leadership, college student organizers holding meetings that working-class people are not able to attend, the list goes on and on. We all need to start thinking more holistically.

A Matthew Shepard Case With Different Cast?
The 1998 beating death in Wyoming of Matthew Shepard, a white gay college student who was beaten and tied to a fence post, prompted hundreds of stories and continues to be used as a reference point in

discussing hate crimes. Two white men, both 21, were sentenced to life in prison.

This morning's Raleigh News & Observer contains a similar story -- only the suspects are black, the victim is white, and the location Southern and urban.

"One of the suspects in the killing of Sean Ethan Owen told police how he and two other Durham men wanted to steal a car, found their intended victim on a gay chat line and lured him to his death
along the banks of the Eno River," begins a story by Benjamin Niolet. "Matthew Lawrence Taylor, 16; Shelton Deangelo Epps, 21; and Derrick Arness Maiden, 18; have been charged in the February
killing and remain jailed. Their cases are likely to be heard soon by a grand jury. But at a bail hearing for Taylor this month, the first
detailed account of the killing became public. The account reveals the three used the gay telephone chat
line as a hunting ground, but what began as a robbery plot ended in a violent death. . . ." "We were going to get the gay guy high to steal his car," Epps told police. "[Taylor] said if the guy was not smooth, he would shoot him."Then there are the details.

"In front of the car, Taylor pulled the revolver, cocked the hammer and put the gun to Owen's head. Epps remembered that Owen said, 'Please don't do this to me,' and turned to run. "Taylor fired. Owen was hit in the head but did not fall. The three ran after him, and each hit Owen in the face. Owen was trying to get back inside his car while Epps, now holding the gun, tried to get a clean shot. Owen kept fighting.

"'The old boy is still moving. I'm thinking, "This boy is a soldier," ' Epps said in the statement," the story continued. After abusing the body some more, they rolled it into the river.It will be interesting to note who pays attention to this story, and whether anyone examines where these young men learned their values.

A 14-year-old boy has been shot by Iraqi police officers for the apparent crime of being gay, the

According to his neighbors in Baghdad’s al-Dura district, Ahmed Khalil was shot at point-blank range after a scuffle with the police.

Ali Hili, an exiled gay Iraqi who is Middle East affairs spokesman for the London gay rights group OutRage! said, “According to a neighbor, who witnessed Ahmed’s execution from his bedroom window, four uniformed police officers arrived at Ahmed’s house in a four-wheel-drive police pick-up truck.”

“The neighbor saw the police drag Ahmed out of the house and shoot him at point-blank

range, pumping two bullets

into his head and several more bullets into the rest of his body.”

Hili claimed that Ahmed was a “victim of poverty” and apparently killed by “fundamentalist elements in the Iraqi police.”

It is believed Ahmed slept with men for money to support his poverty-stricken family. They have since fled the area. (source)
Ahmed’s story – A cruel, barbaric death. Gone but not forgotten.

Ali Hili, of Iraqi LGBT-UK and OutRage!, was told about the execution of Ahmed Khalil by his gay contacts in Baghdad. They knew

Ahmed and his family, and have collected eye-witness accounts from Ahmed’s neighbours, which they have relayed to Mr Hili in London.

This is Mr Hili’s story about the execution of Ahmed, based on firsthand accounts given by eye-witnesses and neighbours:

“Ahmed Khalil was a likeable, playful 14 year old boy, born in the southern Iraqi town of al-Ammara,” said Mr Hili.

The eldest child, he came from an uneducated family who lived in great

poverty.

After the 2003 US-led invasion, the Iraqi economy collapsed, causing widespread unemployment and the disintegration of social services.

With no income or welfare support in al-Ammara, Ahmed’s family moved to Baghdad a couple of years ago, after the fall of Sadaam Hussein.

His father wanted to find a job to support his wife, two sons and daughter. The family settled in al-Dura, a very poor southern district of Baghdad.

Ahmed’s father worked as a night watchman on a building site for the pitiful wage of 10 dollars a month, plus permission for him and his family to live on the site until the construction of the new houses were completed. They lived in the shell of the unfinished buildings. It was a life of desolation and destitution.

Ahmed was often bullied by the neighbourhood boys for being poor. He had no one to protect him.

It is unclear whether Ahmed was gay or not. He had sex with men, often in exchange for small amounts of money and food. He did this in order to

help his family financially. Sometimes they were so desperate, he had sex for a few potatoes or some bread.

Ahmed’s ‘gay’ reputation spread all over his neighbourhood, causing great scandal. His behaviour was reported to the police by informants in the community.

In early April 2006, Ahmed was found dead on the doorstep of his house. He had been shot, with two bullets in the head and several bullets in the

rest of his body.

According to a neighbour, who saw Ahmed’s execution from his bedroom window, four uniformed police officers arrived at Ahmed’s house in a four-wheel-drive police pick-up truck. The neighbour saw the police drag Ahmed out of the house and shoot him at point-blank range.

Several other neighbours confirm this account, although they did not see the actual shooting. They say they heard gunshots and saw the police leaving the scene. They then found Ahmed’s body lying on the ground outside his house. It is believed by these neighbours that Ahmed was

executed by the police.

Two days before Ahmed’s execution, his father was arrested and interrogated by the police. They demanded to know what he knew about Ahmed’s sexual activities and blamed Ahmed for corrupting the community. Officers eventually released Ahmed’s father. His son was killed soon afterwards.

Both Ahmed’s mother and father wept over their sons’ brutal killing. Even though homosexuality is taboo, they did not agree he deserved to die. The family see him as a victim of poverty and police murder.

Because they are so poor, the family could not afford a funeral for their son.

The day after Ahmed was murdered, his family moved out of the area, fearing police retribution and denunciation within the local community. The family’s whereabouts and fate is unknown.

Ahmed is one of many hundreds of teenage boys and girls in Iraq who sell their bodies to survive and support their impoverished families.

Our gay contacts in Baghdad condemn the sexual exploitation of young people. They are endeavouring to help rescue teenagers pressured into

prostitution.

“Iraqi LGBT in London and Baghdad call on the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the Red Cross and Red Cresent and international aid agencies to take action to aid poor Iraqi families, so that children no longer feel obliged to resort to sex-for-money in order to survive,” said Mr Hili.

We are greatly indebted to Ali Hili and his gay activist friends in Iraq for investigating the tragic murder of Ahmed and other gays and lesbians. They are taking huge personal risks to expose the wave of fundamentalist-inspired homophobic killings.

07/06/2005 Update - Ex-Officer Gets Life Sentence for Death of MU Student

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) -- A former Columbia police officer was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison without parole in the 2004 death of a University of Missouri-Columbia student with whom he had an affair.

Steven Rios, 28, also received a consecutive sentence of 10 years on a count of armed criminal action for the throat-slashing death of Jesse Valencia, 23.

A Clay County jury, brought to Boone County because of intense media coverage of the case in Columbia, convicted Rios of first-degree murder in May.

Meet Jesse James Valencia. Jesse was murdered by a police office who was seeing him on the side. It sounds like a plot out of

a soap opera. Unfortunately, it’s all true. As it turns out, he was killed by a man named Steven Rios, a police officer. Rios killed Jesse because he feared that Jesse would talk about the affair he was having with Jesse. Rios was married and had a child. He didn’t want that exposed. So one night, he

went to Jesse’s home, and, after a heated argument, killed him.

Even with 27,000 other students in this leafy college town, Jesse James Valencia stood out. Outspoken, gay and blessed with the looks of an Abercrombie & Fitch model, the 23-year-old junior seemed to saunter through his busy life at the University of Missouri.

He carried a full load of history and political science courses, worked evenings as a hotel clerk, and packed his social calendar with parties, Internet dates and drag shows at

Columbia’s only gay nightclub. He wrote editorials in the campus papers advocating same-sex marriage and had big plans for his future.

printmaking, when do i get a chance to study this art

this would be one of my originals i would like to expand into a Lithograph print.. thing is, i'm not certain how this is accomplished; and poor boys rarely have the opportunity to apprentice under an established master..

to quote my role model,

Lithograph..is

A planographic process of printing from a flat stone or grained metal plate based upon the repellent force between grease and water. Developed in the early eighteenth century by Aloys Senefelder, lithography incorporates a method of drawing with either a grease crayon or a liquid tusche onto an aluminum plate or lithographic stone. The non-image areas are then desensitized to the acceptance of grease by applying a gum arabic solution. This printing surface is then dampened and an inked roller is passed over the image. The water areas repel the greasy ink as the image areas accept ink. The inked image is then transferred to paper as it is passed through a press.

But all over the place you'll see prints by Bacon that are called lithographs and etchings and screenprints. But there's no original interest in the prints on his part - just an interest in signing them, as it helped to finance things a bit.'...In the 60s, the heyday of Pop Art, debate centred on the legitimacy of the silkscreen (just as today it focuses on the inkjet). [HAHA!-me]'The thing about the Pop Artists', says Cristea, 'is that they were investigating new methods. They wanted to introduce photographic elements and collage and throw them all into a print. The best way to do all this was the screenprint, so they adopted it as a fine art medium.

WARHOL'Warhol is a fascinating case, because virtually everything he ever did was a screenprint [...] there were relatively few pictures where Warhol had actually dipped his brush in the pot and slapped the brush on the canvas, because they're silkscreens on canvas.' Now that confuses the hell out of people. When Warhol did the painting he was using exactly the same method as he would for a print (he started with a photograph, made a photo-stencil and then he started squeegee-ing on the colour); except he did it only once.'So the difference between a painting and a print in Warhol's case is that they call the paintings "paintings" because there's only one of them. Strictly speaking they should call them "unique silkscreens on canvas".[...]"

the thing that no one mentions is just how expensive is this process for the artist..

of course i want to be love'd, and of course i'm look'n, though not too hard since you never find love by look'n for it..right?

unfortunately, between dating (flesh market) services, and that random chance I'm not fairing too well..or maybe i'm just anxious for some'ting i won't find right away..u no..

like i have met 3 guys older than myself, 2 of which i have 'sorta' had sex with (guess that makes me easy..if not cheap..cause one of'em i let him get close by the second visit to my house..and he ain't even took me out..) and another one (of the 3 older guys) i slept in his bed by the second time we met..all he had to do was ask..but i like him a lot..(though i don't think i desire him) and he has been real generous wit me..which i really respect..; well the third older guy (whom is only like 5 years older than myself) we been on one date..and i paid for our entrance which really impressed him..i like him too, and will probably give up some juice wit him soon enough..man, i must be a slut..

now with the younger cats..it's all talk and no action on most of their parts..way too much drama from an import out of North Carolina via ATL GA, and you know he was not worth the money i spent and lent him..overlooking the emotional capital that i wasted on him; now the others, which range in names like domonic (real cute), to jay, to carlos, to anthony, to a caribbean calling himself bzefyness, or a N Yorker calling himself deepazz have all been rather uneventful..either we have problems meeting..or they flake on the times we agree..or they really want more to 'tease' me with the idea of sex and intimacy..but have no intention of actually meeting..go figure..

i've drop'd some tunes in my podcast..the latest three have been Funk, Reggae, & Alternative Rock..i hope you can find some'ting of listening pleasue in one of em..who would i recommend off of podomatic.com..well, my boi.. mookie makes some nice mixes..and then there is the worldly,
DJ Carlos Corcho whoms a N Yorker with a decidedly latin style..plus he post an all spanish speaking set as well..i've gotten some good stuff from him..and then there is friday fish fry..
whom has a sports podcast call'd 'f'sho' which is worth the listen if only to pick up some of Moreland &
Cardinal's wisdom..they also seem to be in it for the money..wit this store..

The Govett-Brewster Art Gallery in partnership with the Western Institute of Technology (WITT) and supported by Creative New Zealand, presents Gabriel Kuri: 2006 International Artist in Residence, in his first exhibition in New Zealand. Internationally recognised for an artistic practice that embraces installations, photographs, drawings and sculpture, Mexican-born Belgium-based Kuri will be presenting new works developed during his residency in his solo exhibition, and thanks in advance.

Kuri displaces personal observations of everyday life into the terrain of formal aesthetics resulting in witty and poetic works that challenge how we look at the world around us. In his precise articulation of the grammar of the everyday, Kuri examines and decodes experience working with a variety of materials and situations from everyday life that take on symbolic meanings. The appearance and form of Kuri’s objects are at odds with the stories they have to tell, relying on language games and twisted semantics, visual tricks, artifice and illusion. During his residency at Govett-Brewster, Kuri will incorporate his experience living in New Plymouth with its circumstantial and material specificity.

how to keep focus..when so many other blogs are so much more informative; that is truly a challenge for me.., i mean you have to admire the likes of DJ Rupture,

who has time to provide such wonderful new music and cultural ideas, and still be such a prolific producer and DJ..i don't know where he gets the time and energy to keep so many hats on..i'm so damn tired after just 8 hours of slave labor..i can barely figure out how to make dinner and still compose, create (i.e., paint or draw) and reflect before i'm nodding off..at the midnight hour..most of this composition is happening while i'm at my day job..lucky for me..i have access to computer resources..

gosh, i dig him so much..this is not a great portrait..but i definitely want to do others of him..
check out this mix from ghislain P. out of canada, whom rupture and others seem familar with, whereas, without rupture i would have never heard of this cat.. his mix..
great god, the internet is truly the dawn of a global community..as much as i hate that 'phrase', it implies that we all share similar goals and desires which is not really true of the world even though we are a lot closer these day..

now that i'm in 2007; high time i started to make this blogg what i envisioned; essentialy, i wanted to keep this one for my music and art related reviews; I had so much trouble publishing to it in 2006 that i never got it off the ground; seems, blogger.com has improved on it's interface, esp., the link to google.com accounts..so here we go;
first a bit of shout out..like i'm an old school dread..meaning i never twisted or beauty saloon ting my dreads..i just let nature take its course; well, i changed that today..and went to my daughter's shop ..NAPPY or Not Inc, at 411 E 18th Suite F, Oakland California, 510 835 7838, and Kristen (stylist) did a right fine job of twisting my new growth into my existing locs..and made a few new ones..and oil'd my head..i really look pretty..

A Matthew Shepard Case With Different Cast?

The 1998 beating death in Wyoming of Matthew Shepard, a white gay college student who was beaten and tied to a fence post, prompted hundreds of stories and continues to be used as a reference point in

discussing hate crimes. Two white men, both 21, were sentenced to life in prison.

This morning's Raleigh News & Observer contains a similar story -- only the suspects are black, the victim is white, and the location Southern and urban.

"One of the suspects in the killing of Sean Ethan Owen told police how he and two other Durham men wanted to steal a car, found their intended victim on a gay chat line and lured him to his death

along the banks of the Eno River," begins a story by Benjamin Niolet. "Matthew Lawrence Taylor, 16; Shelton Deangelo Epps, 21; and Derrick Arness Maiden, 18; have been charged in the February

killing and remain jailed. Their cases are likely to be heard soon by a grand jury. But at a bail hearing for Taylor this month, the first

detailed account of the killing became public. The account reveals the three used the gay telephone chat

line as a hunting ground, but what began as a robbery plot ended in a violent death. . . ." "We were going to get the gay guy high to steal his car," Epps told police. "[Taylor] said if the guy was not smooth, he would shoot him."Then there are the details.
